I took a deep breath and tried to convince myself this interview wasn't just a gargantuan mistake. It would've helped if I could have seen the band, but they all had their backs to me. I tried to read their body language, but they were all sitting bolt upright, which either meant (a) they had good posture, or (b) they were petrified.

Words are funny. They are important, but not as important as what they describe. You know, like in a war when civilians are being bombed into oblivion and the army calls it "collateral damage." You could call it chicken soup, but it would still be killing innocent people. Editing the truth ... fictionalizing ... omitting a couple of tiny facts ... It didn't matter what you called it. It was still lying.

The breach felt like the little whirlpool in a draining bathtub, and the change in energy channeled me toward the weakened point.
"Keep going," I urged him when he stopped.
"Dance, tree. Dance for me." His voice was bored and sarcastic. "Whip those leaves around. Ooh, yeah. Shake it."
The minds of other people in the room faded slightly into the background as I concentrated on Drew.
Oh, good. She's not going to pass out. She'd probably be better looking if she were taller and had a bigger rack. She's probably another charm... like we need another stuck-up bitch around here. Maybe if I'm nice to her before she gets the shot, she won't force me to do crap later on.
